Winter is here, and if you are bummed that you have to put away your paddleboard until spring, don’t be! Paddleboarding is a year-round sport, especially in sunnier locales like Florida or California. Paddleboarding in cooler weather can be fun and exciting! Here are three of our favorite destinations for winter paddleboarding in the United States:
Lake Tahoe, California
If you want to be awestruck by the beauty of nature, then Lake Tahoe, California is the SUP location for you! Get up early for an amazing sunrise or stay late to view the sunset alongside the snow-capped Sierra Nevadas. Paddleboarding on Lake Tahoe is an experience you will never forget, but especially so during the winter. Heavy snowfall on the distant mountains takes SUP to a whole new level.
If you are a beginner, Lake Tahoe is also a great place to brush up on and improve your skills. Lake Tahoe is an amazing place to unwind while getting a workout on your board. (Can you imagine doing SUP yoga with the snowy mountains in the background!? Yes, please!)

Key West, Florida
If you want to warm up your winter, a trip to Key West, Florida should be on your list! Home to beautiful water and pristine ecosystems, this is a must for any avid paddleboarder. While boarding, keep an eye out for mangrove crabs, herons, jellyfish, horseshoe crabs, and manatees.
Bonus: The mangroves help block the cold winds from chilling you.
Havasu, Arizona
Arizona is well known for its warm lakes, and Lake Havasu, the state’s largest lake is no exception. Lake Havasu boasts 400 miles of coastline, and summer SUP conditions in the winter. Enjoy the rolling hills and short cliffs from your paddleboard along with distant mountains peeking from a distance.
Tip: A really cool monument that you can see while paddleboarding on Lake Havasu is the London Bridge. This bridge, an amazing feat of human engineering, is originally from England!
